Con il titolo “OVER THE WALL – portraits of street artists” andiamo con piacere ad approfondire il bel progetto fotografico realizzato da Livio Ninni, il fotografo è infatti riuscito a cogliere l’essenza di nomi tra i più importanti del panorama urbano Italiano.

Durante gli anni 2012 e 2013 Livio Ninni sviluppa il suo personale progetto di ritrattistica fotografica, l’intento di dare forma e sostanza al mondo di quelli che sono i nomi tra i più importanti del panorama Italiano a cavallo tra Graffitismo e Post Graffitismo. Non fatevi ingannare, a colpire l’attenzione non è la curiosità nello scoprire il volto di chi si cela dietro un nome, si tratta piuttosto di un approfondimento che una volta più di tutte riesce a tracciare una forma ed una sostanza all’interno dell’universo di ciascuno degli autori coinvolti. Ogni singolo ritratto esercita anzitutto una precisa attrattiva e soprattutto plasma quello che è il piccolo cosmo di ognuno degli interpreti partecipanti, il loro mondo, che abbiamo visto unicamente di riflesso attraverso il loro lavoro, apre una fessura in grado di attrarre la nostra attenzione.

In questo senso l’opera compiuta dal Fotografo racchiude differenti aspetti, anzitutto la volontà di collocare l’artista all’interno del proprio studio riesce a dare una posizione allo stesso ed al contempo a comunicare su differenti livelli visivi, tra le tele, i pennelli e qualsiasi altro dettaglio che riesce a saltare all’occhio. Allo stesso tempo però il volto dello stesso viene proiettato all’interno del suo percorso visivo, esattamente come accade in strada quindi. Abbiamo un entità che prende forma, abbiamo il suo impulso artistico, ma soprattutto abbiamo l’impressione di una istantanea, raccolta attraverso i differenti fotogrammi che si unisce in movimento con quella che è l’idea di arte di ogni artista, con il suo lavoro e di conseguenza con il suo io in strada.

Alla fine si rimane colpiti dall’umanità dei nostri “Eroi della strada”, coloro che riescono a trasmetterci così tanto, a tu per tu ed è forse questo il pregio più grande del progetto.

During 2012 and 2013 Ninni conceives and gives shape to his artistic project of photographic portraits, visiting the studios of the most important Italian graffiti writers. This project aims at showing the world of the top players on the Italian graffiti scene. With this project, the young artist has become at the young age of 24 the winner of the Nikon Talents, first place in the “Young” category at Artissima 2013. “Over the wall” wants to understand the existential narrative and the psychological and human context of our “street heroes”. It offers an imagery produced by graffiti writers and pushes the boundaries of the walls on which they paint to tell the fables of the everyday life that they try to embody. The languages and the techniques of graffiti writing and mural art can be found in the sketches that surround the artists and pile up on their working tables or on the walls. The canvases, on which are reproduced the images that will eventually go to art galleries, give a nice feeling like in traditional artist studios. The imagery of street art and its protagonists is presented by the young photographer through photo-shoots that like gun shots freeze work-space, time and the intimacy of the photographed subjects, in a post-production operation that mixes the affective and existential tones of the artists in images of a late-modern urban aesthetics. The respect for the crisis and the criticism of authorship brought forward by graffiti writing is shown through multiple shots in movement of the artists’ faces, which are placed inside canvases, papers, objects, or walls standing near the photographed subjects. “Over the wall” there are artists: men and women that, every day, put their existence in relation to the space and the time of the contemporaneity in which they live and to which they try to give sense and meaning. Livio Ninni looked beyond those walls and the writing/painting that can be found on them.
